    1. Bear Medicine tells two stories. The first is that of Brooke, a middle class, marathon-running, oddly unworldly wife of a domineering Oregon politician, who, when taking some 'time out' from family life, gets mauled by a bear in Yellowstone National Park. In alternating chapters we read about Anne, in 1877, a young wife of a domineering husband, who gets separated while on an adventure trek with him, again in Yellowstone.Brooke and Anne's stories run constantly parallel, and are connected. Brook [...]

    2. Bear Medicine. G. Elizabeth Kretchmer. Dancing Seeds Press, October 15, 2017, Trade Paperback and Kindle, 318 pages.Reviewed by Deb Lecos. In Bear Medicine, Elizabeth Kretchmer has written two vibrant and poetic side-by-side stories of women from different time periods who have lost contact with their inner wisdom and the power to pursue lives not controlled by marriage vows. Both Anne, a traveler from the 1800s, lost in the wild after a group of Nez Perez (Nimi’piuu) American Indians separate [...]

    3. Seeking and Finding are complicated…discovering what you need and what you want, and how you are needed can result in very different journeys from your starting point. In Kretchmer’s new novel, a simple camping trip, and a week away from distractions turn into life-altering challenges for two women separated by centuries. The author maintains her story is about women helping women in a male-dominated world. That was certainly true for Anne, the nineteenth century wife who was forced to accomp [...]

    4. " and you feel her love wrapping itself all around. You feel warm and safe and full of hope." Full of hope is how I felt reading G. Elizabeth Kretchmer's novel, "Bear Medicine." This is a novel that celebrates the love women share. A love so powerful that it heals and strengthens. Each character faces adversity, and is fortified and renewed by the connections forged with other women. While some characters are set in the 1800's and others in modern times, women caring for other women is an age old [...]

    5. What an enjoyable book from the first page to the last! At the very beginning, I was drawn into the lives of the two main characters who lived more than a hundred years apart. Following them on their healing journeys, I was reminded of how strong women can be on their own, and even more so through the bonding of female friends. Even if that part of the story is not something you can relate to, the author takes you on an adventure to the ‘Wild West’ that includes the wild ways of humans in th [...]

    6. StunningIt took me a minute to figure out what the connection between Anne and Brooke was, but it brought the story together so quickly. Both women were courageous and brave, and endured a lot. I was immediately engaged in the story from Brooke's bear attack. The description and pain that she endured was magnificent, and emotional. I read the book in one sitting. I couldn't put the book down, not even for a moment. The connection between the characters, in both the past and the present had chemi [...]

    7. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Set across two centuries, two different women find themselves in dire circumstances, alone and afraid for their lives. Each of the women face adversity but survive by the comfort and new life skills learned from unlikely new friends. The book shows women caring for each other, sharing the burden of physical and psychological abuse across two different cultures. The author weaves these characters across the centuries into each of their lives showing that hope lives [...]

    8. Really enjoyed this book! Bear Medicine takes you into the lives of women facing tremendous hardships, emotional and physical, and their stories of success and failure. You feel the support and sisterhood shown through the decades contained in the novel, and understand how important we are to each other, even more so today. Beyond the great story, Bear Medicine describes the beauty of our country, in ways you can imagine, smell and feel in every setting. I highly recommend this blend of new and [...]

    9. I highly recommend this book. G. Elizabeth is gifted at exploring women's issues, telling stories across multiple timelines. She doesn't hold back on the tough topics, and has a rare sensitivity in her writing that leaves the reader room for his/her own wonderings.
