    1. ‘Ghosts’ continues the story of Jack’s journey from an uncertain and brutal past to a more or less settled life with Gareth, who is not just his new boss at Nancarrow Mining, but also his lover. It is set right after the breathtakingly intense and suspenseful events of ‘Job Hunt’, the first book in this series and one you have to read before this one. So much so, that I have to issue a spoiler alert for this review for anyone who has not yet read ‘Job Hunt’. The focus in this insta [...]

    2. 4.5 Stars I really loved this story. Being back with these two guys was fantastic. This would have been a 5 star read for me if not for one little niggling dangling thought. There was one little storyline that didn't get wrapped up and it's eating at my brain. Since it's a storyline that doesn't seem to be something that would be wrapped up in the next book I can't just let it go. So that little niggle takes this down a half notch for me. I love the holiday push with this story. It really makes [...]

    3. It’s holiday time and 30 year old Jack Horwood is having a sort of post-traumatic stress disorder. Christmas time is full of bad memories for him, so this year, his partner Gareth Flynn tried to life Jack’s spirits by reminding him of the good things he has in his life now. Gareth has known Jack since Jack was 17 years old and Gareth used to be his Commanding Officer. So while they have known each other for a long time, but Gareth had hard time trying to decipher Jack’s moods. Adding to Ja [...]

    4. A much more spiky read than expected.I was anticipating a story with a dash of season's cheer sprinkled with some angst, and instead I got a mellower, slightly introspective read with a beauty all of its own. The crisp writing style worked well to highlight an intensity of emotion with much being left unsaid. Actions speak louder than words, as Jack and Gareth set in place the foundations for a future together and consider who else is important in their lives. Gareth helps Jack to understand tha [...]

    5. I'm afraid I started reading this book with fixed preconceptions, so I was a little lost and let down while reading it. That is all on me. The book is well written and the insights and thought processes to get them were interesting and certainly helped me understand motivations and why both MC's and Danielle and Nico behaved as they did. Unfortunately, I was expecting more action and thrills. As I said, my bad. Hopefully, I'll get my fix with book 3. ;)

    6. It’s the holiday season and Gareth Flynn’s favorite time of year: family, friends, food and celebrations, and especially cooking. Gareth has awesome culinary skills. But Jack Horwood is not totally comfortable with all the things that comprise family. The holidays just don’t bring good memories for Jack, and we find him taking a serious look at his ghosts from the past.Jack is also facing the issues ahead, in Nico still having to identify people associated with the pimp who’d enslaved hi [...]

    7. RATING: 2.5 starsThis just isn't a series for me, so I won't be continuing after the book (if there's more). I'm not going to review this one.

    8. So helpful tip. A book is less confusing when you remember what series it's a part of, and don't expect the wrong setting when you start it LOL. Really enjoyed all the focus on letting go of the past, not forgetting but moving on and not letting it control you. I liked to MCs. This was a holiday read so lots of Christmas talk. I'm not a big Christmas person, but this had a nice balance. The food prep scenes made me hungry. I loved to focus on Nico and Daniel. And so glad the step taken at the en [...]

    9. I loved watch them stumble to make a family. Jack & Gareth both wanting to be guardians to Daniel & Nico. I just wish they were just a little closer to being together as a couple. I would have liked if they would have gotten maybe a home together before they started the process with the boys. Off to the next one.

    10. A short but worthwhile read. Jack is putting away the past and reaching for the future with the ever patient Gareth at his back. Seeing Daniel and Nico is a balm to the soul after the horrors they endured from when we were first introduced. I love the way the relationships are coming together from all angles and the family being built. I'm looking forward to reading the books to come!

    11. LOVE Jack and Gareth. I held onto these books because it was a new author and the blurbs sounded interesting but didn't put the books to the top of my list - well, the blurbs didn't do them justice. I loved them more than I thought I would.

    12. 4 out of 5 starsDescription ~Jack Horwood doesn’t do families. Or Christmas. From the time his mother sold him to her pimp to the moment he walked out on the man he loved, Christmas has always been about change and painful choices. This year seems no different. Helping Daniel and Nico recover from their imprisonment and hunting down those responsible puts Jack in a frame of mind he doesn’t want to inflict on anyone. Least of all Gareth and the tentative relationship they’ve started to rebu [...]

    13. Ghosts is the sequel to Job Hunt, one of the best action thrillers I’ve read lately – not only in the m/m genre – and I’d strongly advise against reading it as a standalone. It would be too hard to keep up with the numerous characters some of who are only mentioned in passing here – and besides, you’d miss out on crucial aspects of the main characters’ backstories and personalities. This applies especially to Jack Horwood, computer genius extraordinaire. In Job Hunt, he’s a ruthle [...]

    14. Review can be read at It's About The BookHolidays are awkward for new couples and can be stressful for people who had unpleasant childhoods. Jack Horwood knows his boyfriend Gareth Flynn loves Christmas. They both want to start their own traditions and make a happy life for themselves, but we are the summation of our past experiences. The past doesn’t just go away because we want it to. Jack pours a lot of his time into helping Daniel and Nico recover from their time in captivity. Finding peop [...]

    15. A Joyfully Jay review. 3.75 starsGhosts is a direct sequel to Jackie Keswick’s excellent book, Job Hunt. This book picks up after Jack’s heroic rescue of two teenagers sold into the slave trade. Jack has formed a close bond with the boys and they have become a regular part of his new life with Gareth. Unlike Job Hunt, the plot to Ghosts felt pretty thin. There isn’t much rising action and altogether the story has a much slower, almost sedate pacing. Despite lacking the meat of the first bo [...]

    16. *** Copy provided to Bayou Book Junkie in exchange for a fair and honest review. ***Jack and Gareth have been living together for nearly three months, while trying to navigate the change in their relationship, helping Nico and Daniel heal and dealing with Jack's ghosts. I love Gareth. He's such a strong, supportive and patient character. Always knowing what Jack needs before Jack realizes that he needs it and nudging him towards the path he wanted to take. Jack was also strong, but in a differen [...]

    17. Ghosts is a novella that zooms into the lives of Daniel and Nico and how it affects Jack and Gareth. This installment is more of an extension than a story on its own, especially after reading Job Hunt’s epilogue. We get to see and hear from most of the characters, again. Plus, we found out about Goran’s trial and sentencing. But the majority of the book revolves around Jack and the boys trying to deal with their “Ghosts” and how to move forward with their lives. It’s a limited view int [...]

    18. I guess these are difficult books for some people to relate to. You had to have read, and enjoyed, book one to really grasp what's going on in this sequel. Jack and Gareth have a rather different kind of relationship. Gareth can seem quite parental with Jack much of the time. It's more that he knows what Jack has been through and overcomes. Gareth is also the type of man that needs to be needed. He's with Jack because he's captivated by his brilliant mind, his focus on doing what is right in his [...]

    19. Independent reviewer for Divine Magazine, I was gifted my copy of this book. This is book two, and you really MUST read book one, Job Hunt before you read this one. And its more of a half than a full book, significantly shorter than books one and three. Its a good follow up, with just enough of book one falling over into this one to keep you on your toes, with just enough Jack and Gareth, of Daniel and Nico, of everyone else too.Its not as a painful a read/listen as book one, but the underlying re [...]

    20. Rating: 2.5 out of 5 starsGhosts is the sequel to Job Hunt and should not be read as a stand-alone.And if you're right about endings being new beginnings, then I need to lay a few ghosts before I miss out on another one.Jack is a man with a lot of ghosts haunting him, and a lot of issues that came up in Job Hunt. He helped to rescue two young boys from abuse, and he overcame his guilt and fell in love with his former Army CO.So with Christmas around the corner, Jack realizes that he needs to [...]

    21. Ghosts (The Power of Zero #2) by Jackie Keswick3.5 starsM/M RomanceTriggers: AbuseI was given this book for an honest review by Inked Rainbow Reads. This was really a sweet story. My main complaint is that there were unanswered questions for me throughout the story and they were not really resolved.I really enjoyed the dynamic between Jack and Gareth. Jack is super lucky to have a partner who knows his moods and triggers as well as Gareth does. I really enjoyed their banter and I liked the second [...]

    22. Jack and Gareth became lovers in book one, Job Hunt. They’re now established and taking care of Nico and Daniel, two teen-aged boys rescued from a pimp in book one.The bulk of this book is dealing with Nico and Daniel and getting them stable, once and for all, now that they’ve been rescued. They have a lot to work through and some ugliness to face doing it.Jack has his own “ghosts” haunting him – feelings surrounding Christmas as well as some lingering issues surrounding him and being [...]

    23. The story picks up at Christmas time and we get to see how Jack and Gareth's relationship is progressing and how Nico and Daniel are recovering. For Jack Horwood Christmas has always been about change and hard choices while for Gareth it signifies happiness and new beginnings. Gareth can feel Jack pulling away, but can he convince him that a family not of blood but of his own choosing can make him feel whole and grounded? After learning Daniel's parents have been found Jack realizes he will do an [...]

    25. “Love is something enduring that lets you deal with your past, live in the present, and look towards a future.”This a beautifully crafted book but not appreciated unless the first book in the series has been read.Jack and Gareth are learning how to be around one another but give each other space and respect limits. At the same time fighting demons for Nico and Daniel who they rescued in book one.The running thread is about family being the one you choose for yourself. Not as much action as the [...]

    26. 3.5 starsNot as good as the first, but more Jack and Gareth and *happy sighs*.I like the progress of the characters. These books are all about the characters and the relationships. They're great.I could have done without the zillion uses of the word "ghost(s)". Too much beating over the head of the word and concept.

    27. Book #2 in The Power of Zero series. Good things happen to people I came to care for in book #1. This book can be summed up this way: "The best families are the ones we make ourselves."
