    1. I reviewed A Buccaneer at Heart at Heroes and Heartbreakers. Here's what I said.Imagine you’re playing Stephanie Laurens’ BINGO. A guaranteed cover for a BINGO square is the entrance on the page of a duke. A duke’s pervasive, persuasive influence and implicit power, almost always presages a request (from the duke) and acquiescence (from whomever the duke is inveigling). So it is no wonder that when Captain Robert Frobisher, newly returned to London and taking his ease in Piccadilly, spots [...]

    2. Wow! Adventure galore! This series features 4 brothers who are sea captains. I love this series, but it would be best if you read these in order as the plot deepens and the mystery evolves with each book. Besides the wonderful romance, there is a very good mystery going on in Africa. People are disappearing and London has sent these brothers in to figure out what is happening. The heroines, so far, have been strong women who insist on helping. The hero's expression on the cover is perfect! While [...]

    3. Done! I kept reading, kept pushing myself to keep calm and read on, but in all honestyI skipped large blocks of narrative; skimmed paragraphs, ignored dialogue, and read just to finish. My initial reaction still holds. I'm disappointed; and similar to my reaction to volume one in this Adventurers Quartet: too much narrative, still too much set-up; not even showing; even too many people.I like the Frobishers. They strike me as strong, handsome, ready to do what's right, handsome, heroic men. So f [...]

    4. 4.5 starsThis book reminded me why I love Stephanie Laurens! The last few books I have read by her have been good - but they all suffered from "over writing". They were wordy and repetitive and therefore annoyed me. This book while still a bit wordy - was more like the SL of old - a strong warrior type hero and an equally strong heroine, a solid story with action, adventure and passion. This story picks up where the first book left off, Robert has been tasked with finding the slavers camp and re [...]

    7. A Buccaneer at Heart - the most is senseless and useless book Stephanie Laurens. If the first book of The Adventurers Quartet was just like all of her last book, boring and tedious, but it was the sense and logic present. The second book in this series just hit its historic bias, in the 19th century young woman, the more noble could not travel alone, especially in Africa, a woman would be considered a whore and not accepted anywhere in polite society, nor in England, nor in the colonies . Young [...]

    8. 3.5 - 4 stars.Newly returned to England, Rob Frobisher is immediately asked to take over from his brother Declan to go back to West Africa and find out more about the disappearances in Freetown. Once there, he found that Aileen Hopkins has already been there awhile, looking for clues to her younger brother's disappearance. Rob decides to include Aileen in his efforts so that he can keep an eye on her.I have to admit I found Aileen and Edwina almost interchangeable in character, Rob is probably j [...]

    9. I have loved every Stephanie Laurens book I have ever read -- and I think I've read everything she's written. This book just adds to her legend as far as I'm concerned. The Adventurers Quartet series covers the four Frobisher brothers whose family is a shipping dynasty. Each of the four brothers has a part in a different stage of a secret mission for the government. Robert Frobisher is a great hero. He's brave, intelligent, handsome and very diplomatic -- and is a buccaneer at heart :) One of th [...]

    10. While I've previously loved books by Laurens, this one was exceedingly disappointing. The writing was too much with too many unnecessary descriptions that were not only over the top but rather ridiculous as well. Despite the fact the book left me on a cliff hanger of sorts concerning the mission, I will not be reading the next in the series - even though the mission was the only intriguing part of the book

    11. Exciting continuation of the series. This one picks up where The Lady's Command left off. Declan and Edwina have returned to England with the information they were sent to get. Robert has just arrived home from his latest voyage ferrying diplomats when he is met by the Duke of Wolverstone (Dalziel) who wants Robert to take the next leg of the investigation, finding the location of the slavers' camp, and bringing that information back to England. Robert is understandably disgruntled about not bei [...]

    12. First of all, there are no mega long internal analyzes and reflections on the characters as in the first partSecond: definitely better story. Already the heroes are not so hyper ideal, more is happening in the criminal thread. The old Laurens are returning.

    13. Performance: 5 StarsStory: 1 StarOverall: 3 StarsIf it weren’t for Steve West’s exceptional narrating talent this would have been a DNF. The story was weak and had excessively ridiculous descriptions. My finishing it is a testament to exactly how highly I regard his abilities.

    14. A Buccaneer at Heart picks up immediately after the ending of The Lady’s Command, so I would highly recommend that you read these books in series order. Edwina and Declan Frobisher have returned from the first leg of the reconnaissance mission to Freetown, Africa to learn why people were going missing there. Having returned with some eye-opening information, it is time for the next part of the mission to begin, and who better for that mission than another of the Frobisher brothers – this tim [...]

    15. FINAL DECISION:  I generally love Laurens books, but this one was almost boring for the first half. The second half (after the hero and heroine meet) was really good, but I couldn't help but wish that they had met earlier to pick up the pacingE STORY: Captain Robert Frobisher picks up the investigation into the disappearances of people in West Africa. He travels there with the mission to find the camp of the slavers who have been kidnapping men, women and children.  When he arrives, Robert fin [...]

    16. 3.5 starsI enjoyed this one more than the first. I think the rhythm is suited to listening. In fact, I plan to listen to the next book as well. This story starts mostly with two separate stories. The H/h do not meet until well into the book, maybe a third. After romance blossoms, their love scenes are more erotic and less poetic than in the first of the series, perhaps because they haven't already been married for a couple of weeks at the start.I enjoyed both characters and the mystery. I imagine [...]

    17. 3.5 STARSComparing this book to Laurens' Cynster and Black Cobra books--it just doesn't measure up, so I had to rate it lower. Much of the book was boring and too slow paced to me with details and descriptions that really didn't matter. It could have been a shorter book, or combined with Book 1--but that wouldn't fit with 4 brothers. The last quarter of the book it did finally pick up and there was some interesting scenes in the pursuit of Robert and Aileen by the bad guys.

    18. I did not like. There is no information about the past of the characters. I did not understand the feelings of the characters, the passion described well and do not have feelings. I do not understand how Aileen Hopkins interacted with other men who were with her before meeting with Robert. I despise when heroines romance novels had a lot of lovers! This lust and not love.

    19. A good read, typical Laurens. I liked it, but I thought the characters could have used more depth, more of their past related to us. I found that I mentally filled in the blanks in my mind with my knowledge of her past series.

    20. Great!!!Love to read Stephanie Lauren's books!! Looking forward to books 3 & 4 of this series. I like that she brings in characters from her other books. I like the mystery of who the bad guys are and how the main characters work together.

    21. Loved it! The next installment in the Adventures Quartet is excellent! Loved the story of Robert and Aileen and the extension of the mission was written superbly. I cannot wait for Caleb's story .

    22. Great story! Love Stephanie and her writing! Really brings you into the story and makes you anxious for more!

    23. Aileen is searching for her missing brother, and Captain Robert Frobisher is on a spy mission for the Crown when they meet in Freetown, Sierra Leone.***Bit slow to start - listening to the audiobook and I feel as if I want to speed it up - but the voices sound weird to me when I do that - who cares, I’m going for 1.25x this is toooo slooooow otherwise.50% in and nothing is happening… even at increased narration speed. She is told NOT to speak to anyone about their super secret mission… so t [...]

    24. Another great read from Stephanie Laurens in The Adventurers Quartet series. Even though the heroine and hero had a stand alone romance in this novel the overarching plot line did begin in book one so I'd recommend starting there. Aileen knows that hunting down her missing naval brother isn't the best idea but with no one else in her family available she's ready for the challenge. Captain Robert is on a mission for the crown and having Aileen interfere is not what he needs but her determination, [...]

    25. I didn’t like this book nearly as much as I like the last one. I’m not sure why but I liked the writing style of the last one a little better. It’s seem to follow more clear plot line where this one seem to of done a little more stopping and starting. However I still enjoyed the story and the characters. I’m really looking forward to seeing what the next book brings given that the heroin for that novel was a somewhat unexpected choice to continue the mission.

    26. I loved this book. I knew that Robert and Aileen were meant to be together from the start. They worked together and found that love that was meant for them. I love this series and will be reading the third right away. I can't wait until the fourth one comes out. Stephanie Laurens know how to give us a great romance.
