    1. Darach MacDonald (aka Darach Campbell) is a scout for Angus the Lion. Larena Campbell is the daughter of Fitzroy Campbell, a Jacobite sympathizer. When Fitzroy is placed in prison by Colonel Gregory Chatham and the English garrison, Larena escapes and rides to Lord Rutherford for a pardon for her father. On the return to Leathon Castle, Larena and the English soldiers are ambushed. Darach and his brother, Logan, come across the aftermath, and find Larena unconscious at the bottom of the ravine. 2. Another winner for Julianne MacLean! A real page turner! 6 starsI've been waiting almost three years, to read this book, Return of the Highlander, nicely written by Julianne MacLean, a story that follows Captured by a Highlander, Claimed by a Highlander and Seduced by a Highlander, and I cannot forget her novella The Rebel. I'm so happy to say that this author hasn't lost her magic touch for writing Scottish romances. It's another amazing success! This new novel has every elements to please you [...]

    3. 3.5 stars - slightly spoilerishI have mixed feelings about this book and most of them center on Larena. Darach was a good hero - at the beginning, I wasn't sure about him. But as the book progressed, I really started to like him and by the end, I loved him. This man was willing to give up everything for love and then that love turned and stuck a knife in his heart. Larena starts out as a good heroine, but by the middle of the book she became too wishy washy for me. She was willing to believe Dar [...]

    4. This one, on the surface, promised a lot and didn't deliver it, which is a bit disappointing.I've now discovered that MacLean writes essentially the same female characters for all of her novels. Beautiful, brave heroins who only really demonstrate their beauty, rather than their bravery. They're sassy but submissive and at some point in the story, they generally hit the hero over the head with a rock. I find that this book did more 'telling' as opposed to showing, which was a little bit disappoi [...]

    5. This series is beyond any other series I have ever read. I've been waiting almost three years, to read this book, Return of the Highlander, nicely written by Julianne MacLean, a story that follows Captured by a Highlander, Claimed by a Highlander and Seduced by a Highlander, and I cannot forget her novella The Rebel. This book has all of the elements you are looking for in a novel: passion, action, secrets, trust, betrayal and forgiveness!

    6. All in all it was a Good read. The moral here is that no one really knows anyone that well, everyone has secrets, some keep them because these secrets are by and large incriminating. The normal reaction of one who has been deceived is like Larena ~ Disbelief. And I don't blame her. It is quite difficult to process the bad things she just learned about her beloved father. Only her strong will and reason plus her trust and faith in Darach will eventually allow them to move on. There is also the ho [...]

    7. Nice story! Enjoyed the main characters and the plot of the story kept you wondering what was going to happen constantly. Recommended!

    8. A hard book to put down. This is one of those stories that makes you wonder what will happen next. And when it ends you want more.

    9. This was a good book, except the constant indecisiveness. I will, I will not, I will, I will not, I will it never ends! Look, I understand that we need to see the emotional conflict the woman was feeling but we didn't need a re edition every 3rd paragraph. So, good book, it would have been great but the same thoughts stuck on repeat killed it. Infuriating and unnecessary.

    10. It wasn't exciting as I expected it to be and I wasn't able to connect with the characters. It fell flat. I will read the upcoming highlander books as I loved this author's earlier books in the series.

    11. >Book review – Return of the Highlander –>I am an independent reviewer. This book is the 4th in the Highlander series and ends in an HEA. Lorena pledged to marry a man in the English army in exchange for her father’s freedom. As she travels back to Scotland to deliver the royal decree, a band of Scottish rievers attack. Darach and his brother Logan find the aftermath of the battle and a badly injured Lorena. They take her back to their clan. Lorena is the daughter of the arch rival o [...]

    12. This is the fourth book in the Highlander series. First off, with an Author's name of ManLean, you can feel certain that her Scottish roots just might be pretty good. Given that I LOVE Scottish Historical Romances, I've read all of the previous books in the series. (I read many many books and I'm out of work because of winter weather road conditions) The moment that I recognized the hero in this book gave me a smile because I remember reading about his and his younger brother from one of the pre [...]

    13. I give this book 4 Stars!I won't deny that it is difficult to put the book down once I held it in my hands. This story contains a good dose of plot twist which evokes abundant of emotions unexpectedly. The tension involves sometimes makes the moment hard to breath or carry on reading and as a reader the emotions are so explicitly written I feel the emotion of every character that comes by each chapter, especially Larena and Darach.Overall, it's a well written novel. My Perfect cup of "tea". Howe [...]

    14. Wow, I just couldn’t warm up to the H and h. He was moody and terse until he suddenly loved her. She was wishy washy the entire book. One scene really disturbed me. When the H convinced/cajoled the h into surrendering her virginity to him even though she was betrothed to another man and failure to marry him would mean her father’s death. AND there was a British soldier guarding her bedroom door. Made me squirm. I found the book to be disappointing. Bummer

    15. This book got off to a good start and kept a good pace. The good guy grew on me favorably and the heroine lost her sparkle as she failed to stay in character. She was spunky in the beginning and increasingly wishy washy toward the end. The big thing that kept me from giving more stars is the ending where the antagonist is finally dealt with (in a manner of speaking). I thought this was a cop-out and the ending felt rushed. However, it is well written and I was entertained.

    16. I love this series, but this one did not deliver for me. the back and forth, back and forth indecision of Larena was exhausting in the end. I mean how many times does a man have to turn his horse around and come back?

    17. ExcellentExcellent storyline very well written and hard to put down gives a good insight into the struggles endured in Scotland

    18. THIS ONE WASN'T VERY SATISFYING. MAYBE IT STARTED OUT FINEBUT LATER IT JUST DWINDLED. SURE THERE IS ROMANCEBUT IT PACED OFF TOO SOON FOR ME. I ALWAYS LOSE MY INTEREST ONCE THE SEX IS DONE AND THERE IS NO ANGSTTHIS ONE WASN'T LIKE THE USUAL HR YOU WOULD READ FROM AUTHORS LIKE GARWOOD.OUR HERO is the more protective brother who tries to stop his younger, restless brother from exacting his revenge when they chance upon the daughter of the man who killed their father. Apparently he is from the same [...]

    19. RETURN OF THE HIGHLANDER is the 4th installment in the Highlander Series. It has all of the elements you are looking for in a novel: passion, action, secrets, trust, betrayal and forgiveness! In the 4th book the author has kept the same theme as in the first 3 books in the series. The story starts in 1730 Scotland. Larena Campbell, a Scottish heiress, is escorted to Leathan castle to save her father, Fitzroy Campbell, from certain death. He was accused of being a Jacobite. While traveling with th [...]

    20. Neither the storyline nor the characters ever really connected with me. Heroine's father murdered hero's father forcing the hero and his brother to leave their clan. Hero was a dreadful bully growing up. Heroine loved her dad. I, personally, couldn't see how we were going to go from this awkward set of beginning circumstances to a HEA for the protagonists. Apparently, neither could the author. SPOILER ALERT!!!!!! Seriously, do not read any further if you don't want to know. Okay. You have been w [...]

    21. This book had it's ups and downs for me, but thankfully the "downs" were short lived.I did like both Darach and Larena from the beginning. As is typical in most Highland stories, they both come with a lot of clan baggage and complicated family situations. I found myself hoping that they could work it all out, with a limited amount of violence, and attain their HEA. Larena must deal with her feelings for Darach while trying to do her best to save her father. The two situations do not always work [...]

    22. I have mixed feelings about this book and most of them center on Larena. She was willing to believe Darach was using her, that he was [...]

    23. Return to meIn reading Logan's story first I missed something's but after reading Darach and Lorena's story things fell in to place. Like why they were escorting her and what she was doing there. Darach has a strong sense of honor, compassion, and loyalty. He will fight for what he believes is right and just. Lorena wastes happy and family. She sees the good until it is right in from of her. She discounts what she knows when truth is given to her except for what concerns her father. Here in lies [...]

    24. Clan Pride, Duty and HonorMs. MacLean weaves an amazing tale that transports the reader to another time and place where honor and duty reign at least for the honorable. While Larana is being escorted back to her clan with a pardon for her father too save him from death she and her escorts are attacked and left for dead. Darach and his brother find the lass and bring her back to their home to heal even through she is from a clan responsible for their father's death. The story accounts their travel [...]

    25. 3.5 starsI enjoyed this book and since it was the first I've read in the series, I didn't have anything to compare it to, unlike other reviewers who stated this book was disappointing after the first 3 in the series. That said though, I may be spoiled by having read the entire Outlander series (to date). This book is no comparison to those for me, although it was nice to read a book of a reasonable length. Some of the language seemed more like it belonged in the 21st century America, rather than [...]

    26. I won this book as a part of a give-away from . And I almost wanted to give it a 5 star rating, it was a very great read. But something about Darach and Larena's back and forth doubting of each other toward the end kept me at a 4 star rating. And ideally I would have preferred a slightly different ending. Overall this was a great read, thugh. I loved how unique the writing style felt, how easy it was to read, how great the characters were without being bogged down. Larena was a great heroine, st [...]
