    1. Poor Herbie, he's looking so much forward to Christmas, but a moment of weakness at Ali Baba's Bakery ruins everything. Ridden with guilt, he finally gathers courage to do the right thing. Just in time for the holidays to chime in. Sweet little story, and so easy to empathize with Herbie and his guilty little secret. The story of the cookie is fascinating from beginning to the end, especially when we get a cross section of it making its way down to Herbie's fat stomach. We'll be reading more of [...]

    2. A guilty conscience can really spoil a holiday entirely, can't it? Herbie does a thing he regrets almost immediately. Then he has to figure out how to make it right. Best part was that people were given time to be disappointed in him, and for him to feel the consequences of his actions. Worst part? The choppy nature of the story that made it hard to follow sometimes just whose point of view we're in or even who is speaking. This could have been much smoother.

    3. This is a pretty strange story. Herbie steals and frets over it. This was another book where we exclaimed, "What?!?" throughout and at the conclusion. For not being at all what we expected, it did entertain us on this merit alone. There was nothing very Christmas title worthy, other than it was at Christmas time and the stolen item being a Santa cookie.

    4. Herbie steals and eats a Santa-shaped cookie from his friends' bakery. It seems to him that the passersby are judging him, that the cookie in his stomach is yelling "thief! thief!". Herbie worries that if he confesses his friends will not forgive him. But of course they do, and he's filled with joy. Funny and edifying. Cute ducks.

    5. We love all of Petra Mathers' books and this one is a little different but doesn't disappoint. Lots of old favorite characters: Lottie, Herbie, Dodo, Vince and some new funny ones like Ali and Baba.

    6. Guilt over stealing a cookie eats Herbie up on the inside. That's okay, though, because the Sikh store owners will like him again after Christmas.

    7. Definitely set during Christmas, but deals with Behaviour- Main characrter inadvertantly steals a special schristmas cookie and has to figure out how to deal with it.
