    1. The blurb on this volume promised lots of witty banter and loads of action. The volume was written by Cullen Bunn, who has had moderate success with Deadpool. The blurb was probably written by his mum. Maybe I’ve set the bar too high for the laughs? Maybe I’ve just become incredibly jaded in my opinions? Maybe this volume isn’t that funny? Maybe. It delivers on the promise of action. Lots of girl on girl action. With weapons and flying fists. Sorry Gavin. The Fearless Defenders are a group o [...]

    2. Unexpectedly great. I'm not sure what inspired me to pick up this collection in the first place. I haven't read Defenders before, in any incarnation, and don't know the first thing about the history of the book. I also know very little about Valkyrie and Misty Knight. I know Misty used to be Jean Grey's roommate and that's it. I can't say that I'm terribly attached to either character yet, but I am interested.Bunn writes this book with very limited interaction with mainline Marvel Now titles. I' [...]

    3. If you're a fan of female centred comics, I'd definitely recommend giving this a go. It's full of badass ladies! I particularly enjoyed Misty and Valkyrie. The artwork was lovely, and the story compelling, especially if you're a fan of the Valkyries and Asgardians. It also has a lesbian character, and features an f/f kiss. (view spoiler)[ She does die at the end, but I read a spoiler and she's resurrected in the next issue, so yay. (hide spoiler)]

    4. 2 1/2 StarsThe whole time I read this I kept unfairly comparing it to DC's 'Bird's of Prey' which I really dig. Of course, I always compare The Avengers to JLA like any other dork out there, and the JLA always kicks The Avengers asses. Just how it goes. In my mind. I really liked the characters, and overall it wasn't that this was not entertaining to some degree, but two things kind of inhibited my reading enjoyment: 1) I really didn't give a flip about the plot; 2) the very-Marvelesque schmarmy [...]

    5. I like Valkyrie, and I love the idea of an all-female team of heroes. However, I have never been satisfied with how her character has been written. I had hoped Fearless Defenders would give the character new life; and it almost does.First off, Val’s always felt like a second run character. She’s extremely powerful, but she doesn’t face any of the powerful foes of the Marvel Universe. In this series, Valkyrie leads a team of female heroines. Therefore, she has to have her own female villain [...]

    6. These books had so much potential and such a fabulous cast of ladies, but I just couldn't get that invested. The plot was fine, the characters were great, I just wish they'd taken advantage of the full cast available to them. Utilize the ensemble!

    7. Not bad. Mostly women characters. They're drawn in a cheesecakey way though. Some funny lines. Cute covers. Lots of guest stars in the last section. Quick 5 issue read (I think there's half as many words in comics these days compared to the '70's).

    8. My review: 1.5 starsButts. Boobs. Butts and boobs. Boobs and butts. That's it. I mean, I am sure there was something more to this comic that could have been so great - it had female superheroes, nordic mythology and girlpower - but it all just fell flat for me, and what stood out the most were just that; butts and boobs. I really don't understand how some don't tire of spending so much time on drawing butts and boobs in such detail on every single page. I'm almost impressed. Or not.So even though [...]

    9. Huh. If I'd realized this was effectively the third Asgardian book, beside Thor and Journey into Mystery, I would have picked it up long ago. Beyond that, it's the book that The Fearless should have been. The characters are great, and I loved seeing the cast as it slowly expanded. I also thought that the Doom Maids plotline was quite interesting, and a nice adjunct to Asgardian lore, even if it was a bit redundant with the Disir. Overall, a good read and I'm eager to see what comes next, as the [...]

    10. I'm a sucker for female superheroes. It's nice to see Marvel who is always trying to give the women their due taking a chance on the women. If you're a fan of Birds of Prey I'd recommend checking out these girls kick some ass.

    11. This stinks of 'separate but equal'. Marvel doesn't have enough strong female characters in lead stories so they put a dozen in one oddly plotted one. Flimsy idea with no depth and lazy character tropes. The characters deserve better as do fans (no matter their gender.)

    12. Would have absolutely given this five stars for character and story but it's a star off for the ridiculously male-gaze artwork in most panels.

    13. I enjoyed seeing a different and all female lineup. But this book just lacked oomph that makes for an epic debut. I see this team being great for female empowerment, but this was blah.

    14. Was interesting enough but nothing mind-blowingly spectacular. Had a bit of humor and the story was alright. Made me want to know more about the Enchantress to be fair.

    15. This was fun.But. Seriously. Can we get Valkyrie a new outfit? She looks like circa 1990 Madonna with a sword.

    16. The Fearless Defenders, Vol. 1: Doom Maidens by Cullen BunnStar rating: ★★☆☆☆ 2/5 starsFormat: library graphic novelSummary: When Misty Knight brings an artifact to archeologist Annabelle Riggs, they accidentally wake the dead with a prophecy about Valkyrie. The three join forces to stop former shieldmaidens of Asgard, twisted into Doom Maidens. Review: I was pretty torn on how much I liked or didn't like it right up until the end and then I was not too big a fan. It appears to be some [...]

V něm musí Brunnhilda neboli Valkyrie vést tým Fearless Defenders sestavený čistě z ženských hrdinek celého světa Marvelu proti titulním Morovým pannám a Caroline le Fay. Já sám ani tak moc nevím, co si o [...]

    18. This was fun. The art was beautiful, and it was awesome to have a full on book full of female heroes. I grabbed it knowing that the defenders on Netflix wouldn't be the same squad, as this is the group that changes it's line up every few episodes. So I just wanted to see what the comic version of the defenders had to say in contrast to the Netflix series. The commonality is they're a bunch of misfit unlike the avengers. Hopefully JJ has guest appearances in other episodes. The only problem was t [...]

    19. Fearless Defenders Vol 1: Doom Maidens and Vol 2: The Most Fabulous Fighting Team of All, written by Cullen Bunn and illustrated by a few different artists, comprise the entire run of Fearless Defenders comics. Which is sad. They are an all-woman team of superheroes (and one archaeologist) centred around Valkyrie and Knight and and a team that grows throughout the issues. So as long-time readers of this blog can probably guess, I picked up Fearless Defenders (on Marvel Unlimited) because it featu [...]

    20. The Fearless Defenders was a title that I was really looking forward to when Marvel Now was announced. Not only did it have beautiful cover art by Mark "Artist Extraordinaire" Brooks, but also had Cullen Bunn as the writer and a kick ass group of female characters. Unfortunately I never did pick up the issues (something I regret because I fear that it is going to be canceled). I did jump on the trade and I'll admit, I was digging it from the first page onward. The story was believable and a great [...]

    21. Premise: Collects Fearless Defenders #1-6. Valkyrie has a problem. Since the troubles that Asgard has been having (it’s super complicated, but you don’t need to know the details to read this title), she was supposed to put together a new cadre of Shield-maidens to replace other vanished valkyries. She hasn’t exactly done that, and now an ancient team of death warriors are rising from their graves to correct the balance. Valkyrie and Misty Knight might need all the ladies of Marvel to get o [...]

    22. (This review may contain spoilers).I was very intrigued when I realised there was a superhero known as Valkyrie in the Marvel universe. Even though I didn't get to see Brunhilde's first appearance, I did like the comics that were chosen for this collection. It was nice to see Misty again in this volume. I really liked Annabelle's character, too. Even though she wasn't technically a superhero, I thought she was still a strong character. I would have liked to see more interactions between Brunhilde [...]

    23. In preparing to write a review for this book, I have discovered that this title has since been cancelled by Marvel and will end with the twelfth issue. What the hell are you guys thinking?! This is easily one of the best titles that I've read out of Marvel NOW!, most of which are pretty awful, and this is the one that's been cancelled over multiple other offenders? I'm really sad to say that Marvel doesn't quite know what quality is, because when I read the other more "popular" titles, I can't b [...]

    24. I'd never read anything by Cullen Bunn before this series, and with the exception of her brief appearance in the FEAR ITSELF event, I never read anything with the Valkyrie character. Word-of-mouth, good reviews, and some really great covers sparked my interest in this series so I picked up the first couple issues and was instantly hooked. Now that Kathryn Immomen's run on JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY is coming to a close, FEARLESS DEFENDERS just might be my favorite Marvel title right now (I'd say it's [...]

    25. Unexpectedly awesome.Bunn's "Sixth Gun" has been one of my favorite books for years now, but I feel like his Marvel work has beenwell, lacking. Then again, it could just be because his work is sort of just standard superhero fair compared to the headiness of Bendis, Hickman, Fraction and Aaron. There's no doubt that he's a talented writer, he's just not on their level as far as high concept. And that is exactly why this book works. What I love about this, is that it is finally a book about women i [...]

    26. I really like this book. The characters are cool and the banter is fun. If you're like me and know nothing about these characters, you'll like some of them right away, and the story is easy enough to follow. Annabelle Riggs is one of my favourites. I'm a sucker for endearingly awkward nerds who refuse to back down, and accomplish something more than they ever dream they could. Plus, she's an openly LGBTQ character with lots of personality. I love how she interacts with Valkyrie, and the way Mist [...]

    27. Man, I loved this.Cullen Bunn hit my radar with the flawed but still pretty cool Sixth Gun series, and I saw there was another series he was doing, so I requested it for a shot.First, I truly had no idea this was a Marvel property, and this being a Marvel Now piece, I went in somewhat skeptical, since I haven't liked much of the Marvel Now comics coming forward. This, however, was great. A crazy ride from start to finish with big bad guys, fun c-list characters, and a schlocky, b-movie feel to t [...]
