    1. Hugely enjoyable historic romance with a rich plot, exciting adventure and a sexy age-gap marriage.Love's Charade by Jane Feather is a must-read for historic romance fans. As well as enjoying the love story, I learnt a lot about the French Revolution and enjoyed the detail of the setting.Seventeen-year-old Danielle de St Varennes is rescued from the streets by 36-year-old Justin, Earl of Linton. There's rather a lot of extreme effort to preserve her honour and reputation (I did wonder about the [...]

    2. Re-read August 2017: A+++Re-read March 2017: It's been three years since I re-read this gem. Love's Charade is a typical old school romance but I love it to death A+.This is one of my most cherished and favourite old school romances which I re-read regularly about once every one to two years. The printing is so small I would say one page contains at least one and a half as many words as regular pb books do today. With over 450 pages the story would probably be split into three parts à la Shades [...]

    3. I liked this book. After reading the hunger games, i thought i'd dive into some old English-French romance. The story takes you back into the French Revolution. A time when the rich enjoyed the life of the privileged, and the poor where left to scramble. A time when the rich in France enjoyed the luxuriant lifestyles in the French court under the rule of Louis XVI and the infamous Queen Marie Antoinette. She who was famously quoted as saying, "if you don't have breaden eat cake" Just showing how [...]

    4. Jane Feather has a real gift for putting historical detail in a pretty good story. This one is set in the years leading up to the Reign of Terror. The heroine is a young but feisty French girl. The hero is a much older, jaded nobleman spying for Pitt. Lots of good background tying in with a story that is fun to read. I think this must be Feather's first novel. It has a lot of the elements. First books are the books that the authors work the longest and hardest on, usually the stories that they h [...]

    5. Ms Feather at her finest This story drops you in another place and time the characters come alive and you experience the story with them. The best storyteller this is one of my favorites from Jane Feather

    6. Historical English/French romance set in middle of the Terror in France and the proceeding years of crazy political upheaval while mostly our characters stay safe in England.Lord Justin, Earl of Linton is in Paris on official English business when he saves a street kid from a violent baker who turns out to be a young high born lady, Danielle de St Varennes. It is obvious from the start of their journey back to England that Justin was going to marry Danny, because she was impossible compromised a [...]

    7. I found this impossible to rate. There were moments when I loved it, but more moments when I wanted to throw it across the room. Most of all, I felt that it was trying to do too much. It's an exceptionally long book for a historical romance, and it felt like several books lumped together (it may even have originally been released as several books). The first part felt unmistakably like the first part of These Old Shades; the second, somewhat like The Convenient Marriage, and the third part conce [...]

    8. I love Jane Feather as an author. She does really well inserting history into a romance novel. My first thought about Love's Charade is that it seemed quite a bit longer than the usual historic romances and I was really glad it was split into three parts. It almost seemed like three different stories. After getting into the first part I had a real problem with Justin. He seemed like way too much of a booty priss for me to like him. I was really irritated by his uppity manner and that he kept cal [...]

    9. I got this book free from the library and I'll read anything, so here I am. This was a DNF for me. I got more than 3/4 of the way through it and I just couldn't keep going. I was bored to tears. I love history but this book had the most boring delivery. The heroine is incredibly selfish and immature throughout the book and never seems to grow as a person. I admire her desire to help her countrymen and women, but she could have done it more intelligently while also respecting her family/responsib [...]

    10. This book was all over the place. Certain events that I had hoped to see (a return to the main characters home or recovery of her things) where barely (if at all) touched on, and I wasn't interested in the sudden emergence of an evil nemesis after I had passed the halfway point in the book. He felt very much like an afterthought, not an original part of the story line at all. I was quite disappointed :(

    11. This was a well written book. I wish I was smarter about the French revolution because it would of been a 5 star book for me if I did! Still an excellent love story of the fisrt order. My favorite themeheroine dressed as male to escape a situation only to be helped by hero. The discovery was fun and in general the book felt like an adventure. Excellent escapist entertainment.

    12. The author really tried to do too much in this one. There were so many different plots and subplots that it began to get ridiculous after a while. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the level of writing and historical detail in this.

    13. Over all this book was a good book. The main problem I had was the story just keep going on and on. It felt like i had read three books about this one couple and a bit like the author just didnt want to remove any "extra story" 3 stars

    14. This book had a lot of french words/sayings in it which I found a little annoying since I don't know french. Would have been nice if the translations were included. Some of them I could figure out due to the context of what was going on, but not always.

    15. I really don't know why I read this, evenmore, I don't know why I liked it. I hate that I liked it. I think it's because I'm denying somed part of myself that enjoys the all love no matter what stories. I want to think life can always be pure in the love you share with a soulmate. Who knows.

    16. The paperback copy I have has a much better cover, beautiful girl in big ball gown. I would have never picked this book up with the butterfly cover in the image.

    17. This was an oldie that I came across. It was a fun "bodice ripper" type book. But, it took me forever to get through.

    18. This started out cute, but it dragged on too long and was more about the French Revolution than about the relationship between the characters. I couldn't finish it.

    19. I bought this as a vacation backup book. But I did not read this on vacation. I like Jane Feather she is an easy read with a story that moves along.
